Born in Alberta and raised in Golden BC, Josie studied in the social services program and then obtained a Bachelor in Physical Education and Recreation Administration at UBC in Vancouver. As the top graduating student in the program, Josie moved north to Terrace BC to develop a Physical Education curriculum and programs for a private school and for First Nations youth. The next ten years were spent in program and service delivery, community development, management and leadership positions with Boys' and Girls' Clubs of BC.
Josie worked in Maple Ridge as the Director of Recreation for five years and was instrumental in leading staff and facilitating community involvement in recreation facility planning and a joint service delivery system with Pitt Meadows. In West Vancouver over 14 years, Josie led the initiatives for community recreation facility planning and development. This involved a primary leadership role with consultants, contractors and Council in the development and implementation of the Recreation Facilities Master Plan and its successful completion (over $60 million capital program) in 2009. Most recently, Josie collaborated with various levels of domestic government and international delegates for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as a Special Advisor on Protocol and Events. |
